Would you believe that 1 in 5 working adults will experience a diagnosable mental health illness each year, yet half will go untreated? In the wake of COVID-19, it’s more critical than ever for HR leaders to address the mental wellbeing of their teams head-on. Today’s workforce believes their employers have a responsibility to help them manage their mental health — and it’s beneficial when employers do, leading to productive, stronger and happier teams.

On March 9, Quantum Health, in partnership with Headspace Health, hosted “Build an Inclusive Mental Health Strategy Your Employees Will Love.” During this event, local HR and benefits leaders had the opportunity to share ideas, challenges and best practices on building a mental health strategy that meets the needs of today’s diverse workforce. Sandra Kuhn, head of Commercial Enablement at Headspace Health, led the discussion along with Veronica Knuth, the Chief People Officer at Quantum Health; and Joanna Meyer, the Benefits and Wellbeing Manager at National Church Residences.

During the roundtable, participants discussed some of the top reasons why mental health is so challenging to address, including issues related to quality of care, accessibility and rising healthcare costs.. Attendees also participated in peer-to-peer discussions about the most pressing challenges at their own organizations. They left with not only a deeper understanding of the issues and barriers facing mental health in the workplace, but also a three-step framework for implementing and measuring their own mental health strategies.
