Balancing Access and Accountability: Houston Methodist and Quantum Health’s Approach to Smarter GLP-1 Management

GLP-1 medications are transforming how we treat chronic conditions but also creating new challenges for employers and health systems. In this session, Houston Methodist and Quantum Health will share how they partnered to design a clinically sound and member-friendly approach that delivers meaningful results.
Houston Methodist built step therapy protocols for GLP-1s, embedded BMI Reduction Program criteria into utilization management workflows, and engaged eligible members to support adherence and safety. Collaboration with in-network Houston Methodist physicians ensured consistent clinical alignment and high-quality care.
After one year, the results speak for themselves: an 89% reduction in GLP-1 drug spend and a Net Promoter Score® increase from 79 to 82, showing that better clinical management can strengthen trust and satisfaction.
The session will also highlight how provider availability and quality in the Houston market influence both costs and outcomes, offering lessons on how thoughtful plan design and collaboration can drive sustainable, person-centered care.
