At Quantum Health, helping others is what we do—both as a business and as a means of giving back to our communities. Every day, we help our members navigate the confusing world of healthcare with a caring, personalized approach. We extend this same caring mentality to our culture, values and philanthropic efforts.
By partnering with non-profits that focus on improving the health, wellness and vibrancy of our community, we align ourselves with organizations that share the same foundational values as our own. Through our internal philanthropy team, Quantum Cares, we donated nearly $52,000 in 2017 to organizations such as the American Heart Association, the Mid-Ohio Foodbank, the American Red Cross and the Ronald McDonald House.
Quality Coach Kay Booker volunteers weekly for Meals-on-Wheels, delivering healthy food to homebound individuals with a disability or medical challenge in the Columbus area. This program serves as many as 6,000 meals per day!
"I volunteer for Meals-on-Wheels because I love the feeling of giving back and seeing the smiles on their faces," says Kay. "We bring them hot and cold meals to nourish their bodies, spend time with them, shake their hand, give them a hug and let them know they are loved. One lady in particular only speaks Spanish, and although I can't understand everything she is saying, she always makes sure we grab a cold Pepsi before we go, letting us know she loves us."
We believe so strongly in giving back that Quantum Health allows our team members five days off with pay per year to volunteer with a worthy organization of their choosing as long as they follow certain guidelines. Mail Production Specialist Tim Hiser traveled to Houston to help with disaster relief efforts following Hurricane Harvey in 2017. He and his team spent their days removing possessions from families' homes and ripping out wet, moldy drywall and insulation. Thanks to Quantum Health, he was able to extend his expertise to those in need without losing a week's worth of pay or vacation time.
The generosity of our employees never ceases to amaze us. Whether it's donating blood, delivering meals to the homeless or rebuilding homes after a natural disaster, our dedicated employees are always first in line to volunteer their time or talent.
For Jr. Graphic Designer Charles Ewing, giving back is a no-brainer. "So many wonderful things happened to me on my birthday a few years ago that I wanted to share my feelings of intense gratitude with others," says Charles. "I called my brother in faith and told him what I was feeling. He suggested the framework of what was soon to become 'Soup and Socks.' I bought all of the food while he prepared healthy vegan meals. Together, our families assembled care packages containing homemade chili and wraps along with gently used clothing to hand out to the area homeless. Soup and Socks continues to serve our fellow Columbusites today and allows us to give thanks for the favor we enjoy."
One fun way that Quantum Health gives back to our employees is through a raffle at our annual year-end party. Throughout the year, employees are encouraged to sign up for a chance to attend one of the many fundraising galas that we attend and support throughout the year. These events typically include live music, dancing, fabulous food and a silent auction where employees can bid on incredible prizes on behalf of Quantum Health.
Donating to a good cause through these silent auctions is only half the fun—the other half is giving away these prizes to our hard-working employees at our year-end party! From tropical trips to weekend getaways to OSU football tickets, our prizes are nothing but spectacular.
Assistant Pod Manager Katie Gamble was one of the lucky winners at our year-end party in 2017. She won an all-expense paid trip to Mexico! "I had an amazing time," says Katie. "The resort was absolutely luxurious. We had access to a private cabana overlooking the ocean with a private pool and a personal waiter. The staff was extremely friendly—I felt like a princess the entire time. The best part was the food... there were so many different options that were all AMAZING! I am so grateful to work for a company that gives back to its' employees. It truly was a trip of a lifetime!"
How Quantum Health gave back in 2017 can be quantified in not only volunteer hours and money donated, but also in lives saved through our American Red Cross blood drives:
We're proud to support and partner with such extraordinary organizations and team members who work so hard to help make Columbus—and the world—a better place.
