Kara J. Trott
Founder & CEO
Kara Trott founded Quantum Health in 1999 with the goal of
helping people maintain their health and guiding them through
the confusing healthcare system. As a consultant designing
healthcare delivery systems in the 1990s, Kara observed that
the process of healthcare is broken
at the patient level.
By
applying the lessons of consumer behavior analysis and marketing
to healthcare, Kara led Quantum Health in development of a
program known as Coordinated Health/Care™,
which now
operates in health plans around the country and has held annual
claims trend to less than 6% over the past six years.
As CEO, Kara's oversees Quantum Health's strategic vision and product development, along with sales and client services. Under her leadership, Quantum Health has grown 30-40% annually and now coordinates the healthcare of more than 65,000 members.
The company has received numerous awards and recognition for its innovative approach including a 2005 regional Entrepreneur of the Year award from Ernst & Young. Additionally, Kara was recently selected by the U.S. Small Business Administration for a meeting with President George W. Bush during which she explained Quantum Health's unique approach to healthcare management and cost control for businesses.
Prior to founding Quantum Health, Kara was a corporate attorney with the law firm Bricker & Eckler, where she specialized in securities and corporate law, and spent many years in Bricker's well-respected healthcare practice. Before becoming a lawyer, Kara was a strategic marketing consultant and project manager at RPA, an international business consulting firm. During this time, she managed large scale consumer and market research, consulting and strategic planning projects for Fortune 500 retailers and consumer goods manufacturers, including Ford Motor Company and Citibank.
Kara is an active member of Women Presidents' Organization, the National Association of Women Business Owners, the Buckeye Gazelles Association and is on the Advisory Board for both Key4Women (KeyBank) and Enterprising Women. She graduated with honors from the Ohio State University College of Law and earned a B.A. in Political Science from Ohio Wesleyan University.
Randy Gebhardt
President and COO
As Chief Operating Officer, Randy Gebhardt is responsible for
managing all operating functions including coordinated care
services, account operations, provider services, finance, human
resources and information technology. He is a member of
Quantum Health's Executive Staff and also maintains involvement
in market development, particularly with regard to creating and
maintaining relationships with business partners such as third
party administrators, provider networks, and consultants.
Randy has more than 20 years of experience as an international
marketing and business consultant. He served as President
of RPA/Retail, the strategy consulting and design division of
RPA Worldwide. and was president of Retail Marketing Group.
Throughout his career he has sold and directed major strategy
consulting projects for Fortune 500 firms such as Coca-Cola,
ToysRUs, Circle K, Kraft Foods, Tandy, Bridgestone/Firestone and
GTE. He has managed two
start-up organizations and spent more than five years working in
Russia as the president of a U.S.-led start-up of western-style
supermarkets.
Randy has also co-authored two university textbooks on consumer
behavior and retail marketing and has been frequently quoted by
the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Business Week and other
national business publications. Randy has an M.A. in
Journalism and B.S. in Mathematical and Physical Sciences, both
from the Ohio State University.
Michael Ansel
Senior Vice President, Sales and Account Services
Responsible for all client relationship functions at Quantum Health including sales, account management and healthcare strategies, Michael brings over 22 years of industry experience to his position. Most recently, Michael was the Senior Vice President of the Health Enhancement Division of Matria Healthcare, where he spearheaded their business development efforts.
Michael has an extensive background in Care Management, having worked with organizations such as Healthways, Accordant Health Services, CorSolutions, and Matria. His experience ranges from leading operational centers in Diabetes Treatment to developing new products and services to better engage and manage those individuals with chronic disease. Michael has helped create and worked with quality teams to examine the needs of the nation's employers and insurance carriers, and deliver high quality service to address their changing needs.
In the mid-1990s, Michael worked with a small team of thought leaders to develop the first population-based model for better managing people with diabetes, thus launching the concept that evolved into Disease Management. Since then, he has worked within the employer and government sectors to bring to health plans programs and services that include common disease management programs as well as programs for uncommon conditions and, most recently, health and productivity solutions.
Sandy Freer
Director, Quality Assurance
Sandy brings over two decades of experience to her position as Director of Quality Assurance. Her focus at Quantum Health will be developing workflows, policies and procedures, training systems, and auditing.
Sandy's career includes 21 years at CIGNA HealthCare. While there, she managed various functions within the medical benefits area, including customer service, claims, eligibility, provider relations and customer service, and utilization review for the pharmacy benefit area. She was responsible for managing the company's first out sourced call center; and participated on a variety of projects including obtaining NCQA certification, implementing workflows for HIPAA compliance, implementing a new customer centric quality program and many process improvement initiatives.
Sandy has a BA from Wittenberg University and an MBA from Capital University.
Mark W. Smith, CPA
Controller
Mark joins Quantum Health with over 20 years experience in financial management, including 12 years in third party benefits administration and small group health insurance. As Controller, Mark has comprehensive responsibility for the financial and accounting functions.
On a day to day basis, Mark has responsibility for reviewing the company's past, present and future performance including sales forecasting, profit planning, cash flow and expense budgeting. He directs and oversees accounts payable, cost accounting, general ledger, billing, receivables and payroll.
He also identifies cost savings opportunities and monitors capital investing. Additionally, Mark creates reports and decision support tools to department and corporate management that facilitate business decision making.
Previously, Mark served as divisional Director of Administration and Controller at CoreSource.
Mark earned a BS in Business Administration (cum laude) from the Ohio State University and has been a Certified Public Accountant since 1984.
Terri Bishop, R.N., CCM
Director of Clinical Services
Terri brings nearly three decades of experience to her position as Director of Clinical Services
Terri's responsibilities include the development and implementation of clinical programs for high-risk populations, enrollee education, communication with clients and the oversight of direct case management. These responsibilities are essential to helping members "Be Well, Stay Well and Get Well."
On a day-to-day basis, Terri focuses on identifying individuals with progressive, chronic conditions and determining their level of acuity. Once this is accomplished, Terri and her team work with these members over time and along established care pathways to stabilize, improve and maintain their health.
Terri also plays a key role at the employer level by working with them to develop and implement benefit structures and actionable programs that deliver results on a population basis.
Before joining Quantum Health, Terri served on the adjunct medical/dental staff of hospitals in Ohio and Illinois. Co-founder and administrator of the Ruth Helen Wolf Arthritis Center in Evanston, Illinois, she has worked with the medical staff and residency teaching programs at Saint Francis Hospital in Evanston, St. Ann's Hospital in Columbus, Ohio and Mercy Medical Center in Canton, Ohio. In addition to her clinical background in orthopedics, cardiac care, and palliative care, Terri has also worked as a case manager for a regional health plan. There she designed and implemented disease management for the Medicare population and collaborated with several hospitals and the Quality Improvement Organization of Ohio in order to provide consistent high standards of care to those individuals with congestive heart failure and diabetes.
She is a graduate of the Ohio Valley School of Nursing and has her certification in case management and diabetes management.
Amy Crowell
Director of Patient Services
Amy is responsible for overseeing patient service operations, including inbound calls from patients, providers, and families. She has an extensive background working in the Case Management field, from on-site review for three years in an acute care facility, to concurrent and DRG review for the Federal Government, to utilization review for an HMO for 15 years.
Before joining Quantum Health seven years ago, Amy was Director of Medical Services at HealthFirst, Inc., an HMO in Marion Ohio with 45,000 covered lives. While there, she was responsible for the daily tasks of utilization review, the pre-certification process and case management/disease management which involved supervising 15 staff members while maintaining NCQA certification.
Prior to this, she worked for six years at Northwest Ohio Physician Review Organization (a PRO located in Findlay, Ohio) performing reviews in 17 hospitals and 32 skilled nursing facilities under a government contract. She also performed utilization review at Marion General Hospital both for Medicare/Medicaid and private insurance.
She is a CPUR (Certified Professional in Utilization Review) and previously received certification as a CPC (Certified Professional Coder).
John
Bradford
Vice President of Client Services
As Vice President of Client Services and Manager of Market Development, John Bradford is responsible for new business development, broker relationships and account management. In addition, John is involved in the strategic development and execution of Quantum Health's sales and marketing plan and is a member of the company's Executive Staff.
His up to date knowledge of the industry and consultative approach to business benefit clients throughout the United States. Additionally, John prides himself on maintaining a high level of personal contact with his clients.
Prior to joining Quantum Health, John served as Senior Vice President-Marketing for Retail Planning Associates, an international business consultancy.
John is a graduate of the Ohio State University where he received his degree in Business Administration.
Sandy Sprung
Vice President of Client Services
Sandy Sprung brings over a decade of healthcare experience to
her position as Vice President/Client Services. Her responsibilities
include developing partnerships with new clients and further
building relationships with existing accounts. A strong communicator
with a high dedication to providing exceptional customer
service, Sandy is well known for her ability to listen to client
executives and help them achieve their goals.
Before joining Quantum Health, Sandy held a senior sales
position at HomeTown Health Network, a leading managed care
organization focused on serving secondary metropolitan markets. While there, Sandy expanded group health clients by 215
employer groups in both fully-insured and self-insured product
lines. She also worked in
account management where she developed several proactive tools
to better service HomeTown's brokers and employer groups.
Terry Pinne
Vice President of Client Services
Based in Kansas City, Terry Pinne is Vice-President of Client Services for Quantum Health clients in Kansas, Missouri, Iowa, Oklahoma, Nebraska and Colorado.
Terry brings over 20 years' experience in the group health and benefits field. Most recently Terry was a senior benefits consultant at Gallagher Benefit Services, the world's 4th largest insurance brokerage/consulting firm. Prior to joining Gallagher, he was Vice President of Marketing and e-commerce for MetLife's Small Business Center.
Terry is a graduate of the University of Kansas and has completed extensive post-graduate work from Columbia University in New York and Babson College in Wellesley, Massachusetts.
Lenny Skelton
Vice President of Client Services
Based in Richmond, Virginia, Lenny Skelton is Vice President, Client Services for Quantum Health clients in the eastern and southern United States.
Lenny brings nearly two decades of experience to his role at Quantum Health, having worked in all levels of client services and strategic sales within the consultative sales arena. Immediately before joining Quantum Health, Lenny was Area VP for National Accounts for Partner Alliances for the East. Previously, he had been Senior Sales Executive for the Mid-Atlantic Region for ADP/Employease, VP/Sales for Marsh/Mercer for the Virginia territory, and Majors Accounts District Manager for North Carolina and Virginia for Automatic Data Processing.
Lenny received a BA in Political Science from Hampden Sydney College in Virginia.
Brian Doran
Manager of Healthcare Strategies
Brian Doran has extensive experience with both fully-insured and
self-funded healthcare programs, including various types of
"consumer-driven" plans. As Manager of Healthcare Strategies at
Quantum Health, Brian oversees the Information Analysis
department and is responsible for the strategic analysis of plan
performance for all clients. In addition, he works with Quantum
Health's Account Services team to develop customized cost
management strategies that also deliver meaningful healthcare
benefits to employees and their families.
Brian spent the last several years as a manager and consultant
with an Ohio-based employee benefits insurance agency.
Leveraging his analytical expertise and "win/win" approach,
Brian has assisted a wide spectrum of employer group clients to
improve plan efficiency.
Brian graduated magna cum laude from The Ohio State University
and holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree from
Franklin University, with a concentration in Finance. Presently,
Brian also serves as an adjunct instructor in Finance and
Business Management at the University of Phoenix, Columbus
campus.
Linda W.
Fromson Manager of Wellness Programs
Linda brings over 20 years of multifaceted experience in the
healthcare industry to her position as Director of Wellness
Programs. Based on analysis of healthcare trends, she initiates
the creation of various programs, develops program detail and
then works with Quantum Health staff and clients to ensure
successful implementation and ongoing execution.
Previously, Linda was in charge of the for-profit entity of St.
Anthony Hospital where she developed and oversaw four small
business concerns including a durable medical equipment company,
a retail pharmacy, a physician telephone answering service and
women's health centers.
Over the ten years that Linda was with OhioHealth Group, the
managed care subsidiary of the Ohio Health System that includes
Riverside and Grant Medical Centers, she had responsibilities
for areas that included Client Services, which focused on
managing some of the large self-funded accounts and Provider
Network Services, which encompassed development, implementation
and management of provider networks throughout the state of
Ohio.
Linda
earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Education from the Ohio
State University and a MBA from Capital University.
Tom Gray
Manager of Information Technology
Tom Gray brings 20 years of IT experience in management and
application development to his position as Manager of
Information Technology. He has a passion for software
development and is directly responsible for managing the design
of Quantum Health's proprietary information systems using
industry best practices to ensure their efficient and reliable
operation. He also determines the company's long term hardware
and software requirements that are needed to accomplish overall
business objectives.
On a day to day basis, Tom and his team ensure the reliability
and security of Quantum Health's servers and network and
maintain an active disaster recovery program for all data and
systems. Additionally, they provide support to virtually all
departments within the company.
Before joining Quantum Health, Tom was Manager of Systems
Architecture at Micro Electronics, Inc., the parent company of
Micro Center, where he was responsible for Web Development,
Quality Assurance and the Project Management Office. During his
tenure at Micro Electronics, Inc., he led the design and
development of multiple enterprise-class applications, including
Finance, Distribution, Product Data Warehouse and
www.microcenter.com.
Tom is a graduate of the Ohio State University where he received
his B.S. degree in Management Information Systems.
